Subject Starting a cold engine

Date Fri Apr 16 2010 12:09
Author al jasso (ajasso@q.com)

So my Mark II has been sitting for seven months and I do not want to start the engine without first pressurizing the oiling system. I have been given various advice about cold start-ups ranging from pulling the plugs to just start the darn thing. I am just not comfortable with these proceedures on an engine that has been sitting for so long.

To that end I would like to build or acquire an engine pre-luber to pre-lub the engine before attempting a cold start. I have heard that one can build a pre-luber with an oil pump, some fittings, and a sturdy (2 gal) plastic bucket. XK engines have a convienent oil gallery acess so it should be a simple task pressureize the system.

So, has anyone built one of these or any other ideas on the subject?

I would like to know what the collecting thinking of our Jaguar community is on this subject.

Thanks for you input

Al
